(Jul 24, 1928 – Nov 3, 2014) – Kathie was born on a farm in Huxley, Alberta, 4th child of Bill and Letty Nash, and died in Victoria, BC, at the age of 86. When she was 15 she moved with her family to BC and spent the rest of her life on the West Coast. Before her marriage in 1949 she worked for 2 years at The Infants Hospital in Vancouver and then spent her time raising her three daughters. She was passionate about children and their early education and in the 1970’s she worked as a supervisor in a day care and furthered her own education in Early Childhood Education at Fraser Valley College. She went on to work at the College in the ECE department, until her retirement in 1989, when she moved to Tofino and fulfilled her dream of living by the ocean, in a house she built and operated as a B&B for 10 years.
Kathie was active in amateur theatre most of her life and wrote many, many poems, stories and memoirs, some of which she published in her book “The Maypo Lea Forever” in 2002. She was a long time member of the Out to Lunch Bunch and more recently a member of The View Royal Garden Club, The Positive Living Centre, and The Amazing Grays. Kathie was a gardener, a reader, a traveller, a theatre-goer, a poet, a story-teller, a great Mum and a wonderful friend.
Kathie was pre-deceased by her sisters Mildred Michie and Bert Grafton, and her brothers, Harvey Nash and Don Nash, and survived by her brother Howard Nash, her daughters, Christine, Trisha, and Avril (Drake), 4 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins, and countless friends.Print This Obituary & Condolences
