He was predeceased by his parents, William in 1968 and Grace in 1996.
Ed was born in Kindersley, Saskatchewan in 1932 but moved to Oliver at age 1 where he spent his childhood on the family orchard. Clearwater became his home when he arrived with his family at age 12. He started his working career at Long’s General Store and soon moved to the planer of Thompson River Logging, later known as Clearwater Timber Products. Eventually he created Buck Logging Ltd, which later expanded to include Buck Lowbed Service. As a young man Ed participated in sports such as baseball and hockey but his passion when he retired was golf. He rarely bypassed an opportunity to play. Ed was recognized for his service to the community as Citizen of the Year in 1968. While he supported many organizations in a number of ways throughout his lifetime the most notable were his 33-year membership of the TNRD zoning committee and his 25 years of leadership on the board of Evergreen Acres. His commitment to his community was surpassed only by his commitment to his family. He was a giving man and often placed the needs of his family and friends above his own.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Ed’s name may be made to the Royal Inland Hospital Cancer Clinic through the Royal Inland Hospital Foundation, 311 Columbia St, Kamloops, BC V2C 2T1 or Dr Helmcken Memorial Hospital at 640 Park Dr., RR#1, Clearwater, BC V0E 1N0. A celebration of his life will take place on Sunday, September 12 at 1:30 pm at Lacarya Golf Course. Lloyd Strickland will officiate. A reception will follow.Print This Obituary & Condolences
