Ralph Leonard Barrett of Vavenby, BC, passed peacefully at Royal Inland Hospital, Kamloops, BC, after a brief battle with cancer. He was 63 years of age. Ralph is survived by his loving wife, Debbie Barrett (née Kennelly) of Vavenby, BC, his daughter Amber of Vancouver, BC, sisters and brothers-in-law Marj and Helmet Lausman of Vernon, Nora and Cliff Welsh of Kamloops, brother-in-law Mike Kuziw of Vernon, and by his brother and sister-in-law Dave and Lynda Barrett, also of Vernon. Ralph was predeceased by his parents Leonard and Ella Barrett and by his sister Madge Kuziw.
Ralph was born in Prince George, but lived in Enderby, Mabel Lake, Kamloops and Williams Lake, before moving to Whitehorse, Yukon, where he met and married his wife, Debbie, on September 8, 1979. He also spent several years in the Canadian Armed Forces. Ralph and his family moved to Vavenby, in 1994, where he drove a low bed and logging truck until buying the Vavenby General Store in 2007. Ralph loved the outdoors, camping, fishing and hunting which is why he loved the Yukon so much. He also loved pets and was known to bring home strays to his wife occasionally.
A celebration of Ralph’s life was held on January 22, 2011 at the Vavenby Community Hall. He will be greatly missed by all who know and loved him.
